During the time Leander ISD campuses are closed, counselors will continue to support the needs of our students and families. The safety and emotional well being of our students is the top priority for our Counseling Services Department as well as all Leander ISD staff.
All counselors have created and are communicating a procedure for families/students to contact them during this time of working from home. Email is always available, but each campus has created a Google Form to submit requests and questions. The responses on this form are monitored by campus counseling teams so that team members can answer questions when an assigned counselor may be temporarily unavailable. Please check the email communication from the campus or the campus counselor website for a link to this form.
In the event of a mental health emergency or if someone is experiencing suicidal ideation, please call 911 or one of the resources listed below:
- Text “Home” to 741741 Text Line: www.crisistextline.org
- National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255; suicidepreventionlifeline.org

Should counselors need to speak to a student through a phone call or virtual meeting, we ask that a parent/guardian be home at the time of the call.
Virtual Counselor Plan
During this time of closure we understand learning from home will be a new experience for many of our students. Our counselor’s primary purpose is to support this learning by offering strategies and activities to decrease stress and anxiety.
Elementary counselors will provide activities that support previous counselor lessons as well as lessons taught through our Second Step curriculum. The lessons/activities will be tailored to the specific needs of the campus and reinforce prior learning.
Secondary counselors are also available for support and questions. At this time of year many of our students are working with counselors on academic planning for the 2020-2021 school year. Please know our secondary counselors will continue to support this process as well as continuing to be the primary contact for any mental health concerns.
Mental Health Support
Our team of Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors are currently contacting each student/family on their caseload and designing appropriate ways for check in appointments. Please watch your email and voicemail for messages from them.
They are also compiling a list of outside providers who are accepting new clients for virtual counseling/therapy. This list will be available in the Leander ISD Resources Page.
