Thus far, guidance from the TEA stipulates as long as school districts are “Closed, Instructing”, the school district will receive attendance waivers upon application approval. Those waivers would be granted as long as the district commits to supporting students with instruction while physically absent from campuses. Districts, like LISD, must submit proof of remote instruction along with the waiver. School districts must further show they have provided all necessary educational resources to a student’s parent/guardian and must also provide guidance on how the instruction is to be delivered to the student. On March 19, Texas Governor Greg Abbot signed an executive order temporarily closing all Texas schools as a part of the COVID-19 mitigation plan. On April 17, he extended that order for the duration of the 2019–2020 school year.
Graduation and In-District Events
How will COVID-19 impact graduation ceremonies and graduation requirements?
Leander ISD graduation ceremonies have been rescheduled to July 9–11. Please visit our Graduation 2020 page for more information.
Have the University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities, games, and events been canceled?
What travel restrictions are LISD making to students?
Leander ISD encourages families to stay updated as they consider travel plans, and heed the CDC’s travel advisories. The CDC provides recommendations on postponing or canceling travel. These are called travel notices and are based on an assessment of the potential health risks involved with traveling to a certain area. Here is a list of destinations with travel notices.
What happens if a family decides to travel internationally?
If an LISD family or staff member travels internationally and chooses to self-quarantine upon their return, the district is going to make every effort to support the decision to manage the health and wellbeing of their household.
